SendLabs: Winter 2007 Updates
Brett
Brett Houle
Product Development/Marketing
As we move into 2007 we are excited to share with you a glimpse of some of the application enhancements already under development.

First is our new naming convention. I'd like to think we where the brilliant folks to follow a software release naming convention such as this, but the truth is, we spent time analyzing our development approach with how the rest of the world develops software and how frequently we desired to - and had the ability to - enhance our technology. (Small footnote... we are ALWAYS enhancing and releasing improvements and plan to put ongoing updates/release notes on the prod dev section of our blog.) With that said, we do plan for major upgrades/feature enhancements each quarter and plan to package those as primary releases each season. (thus the Winter '07)

Oh yeah - I forgot - where did we get the naming convention? How did we go from SendLabs v 5.0 to SendLabs Winter '07? Our good friends over at Salesforce.com. They are a model of SaaS (Software as a Service) in which we support wholeheartedly. And honestly, It just sounds cool, fits in with our philosophy and just plain fits. Now on to a sneak-peek at the Winter '07 edition...
Infrastructure Enhancements
The often less tangible, behind-the-scenes technology that really supports all of your email marketing efforts lie in the data center and hardware. We are in the final stages of testing of our new server architecture which will bring greater scalability, security and flexibility as we continue to grow and support you.
Enhanced Mailing List Segmentation
In addition to demographic list segments (i.e. zip code equals 00000), we will be providing you the ability to create list segments based on behavioral data. (i.e. create me a list of recipients to followup with that clicked offer A versus offer B in my last mailing). This will open up opportunities to create followup mailings to customers based on how recipients interacted with your last mailing.

Enhanced Send-to-friend
The ability to drop a send-to-friend button, image, or link anywhere inside the body of your newsletters or emails will be painless! In addition to where you put it, you can also make it clickable from any item (a button, a custom graphic, etc.)

Test Mode
This one is one of our favorites. As part of any work-flow related to delivering an email campaign is the desire to create a test mailing to a group of folks internally or externally for review/approval. While this feature already exists, we plan on create a dedicated action called "Send Test". Often emails require multiple tests. Once you deploy Test 1 (it will add T1: to the beginning of your subject line while in test mode), you will also be able to view testing reports separate from the main live mailing. Need to send another test? The system will increment to Test 2 and change the subject line to T2. Once you are ready for a live broadcast, you will schedule or send as usual with no Test reference.

Additional Improvements...
- Private Reports Login Creation
- New Template Library
- Enhanced Reporting
- and more...

Stay tuned for updates as we move forward. The Winter '07 Edition is targeting a mid-February launch.

Email Marketing; There's Something (Wrong) About Outlook 2007
If you are a graphic designer/creative person or someone who designs and/or codes HTML email, you may hate me after you read this entry. I’m really a nice guy though, so please hate the message, not the messenger. Thanks to Microsoft, a big change has impacted how your emails look and you need to make some adjustments, lest you not live up to your company billing as (insert name here), email marketing rock star.

SendLabs Product Update: Looking ahead to 2.5 and 3.0
Ok, I can't make any promises here about presenting the following news in a calm manner, but it's just hard to hold back the enthusiasm. We are knee-deep in the planning of our next iteration of SendLabs. Our enhancements are packaged in two releases over the first half of 2007.

Top 11 New Year's Email Marketing Resolutions - 2007
Great. Another list, right? Yep. But hopefully this one will make you lots of money or even get you a promotion (which may actually have you check off a few of your own resolutions!). P.S. We just couldn’t stop at 10. We tried. We think #11 is the strongest (and our favorite) email marketing resolution of all for the New Year. Happy Email Marketing in ’07! The Crew at SendLabs
