Email Marketing: Putting Outlook 2007 On The Table

Posted on Monday, August 27, 2007 by Brett

Here's a post from guest blogger John Norton, who does a lot of cut and coding around these parts.

All over the internet people have been bickering and complaining about the new Outlook 2007. Microsoft really screwed up on this one. But before I join the others I am going to give you some insight. My biggest issue with Outlook 2007, aside from background images, background colors and anything div, lies with the tables. Yes, they have even ruined our beloved tables!

Unless you plan on applying a border to all four sides you’re not going to see your borders. For example, “border-left:  1px solid #FF0000;” no longer works. Ok so now we need to figure a way around this. The simplest solution lies with images. If you need borders in some areas and not others, use 2 pixel width/height images as your border and throw them in a “td” tag. Remember any less than 2 pixels and your email will be flagged as spam. So code smart for the email bully, and use images for borders.

You heard it here from the lab. Happy Coding!
