Email Marketing: Putting Outlook 2007 On The Table |
Here's a post from guest blogger John Norton, who does a lot of cut and coding around these parts.
All over the internet people have been bickering and complaining about the new Outlook 2007. Microsoft really screwed up on this one. But before I join the others I am going to give you some insight. My biggest issue with Outlook 2007, aside from background images, background colors and anything div, lies with the tables. Yes, they have even ruined our beloved tables!
Unless you plan on applying a border to all four sides you’re not going to see your borders. For example, “border-left: 1px solid #FF0000;” no longer works. Ok so now we need to figure a way around this. The simplest solution lies with images. If you need borders in some areas and not others, use 2 pixel width/height images as your border and throw them in a “td” tag. Remember any less than 2 pixels and your email will be flagged as spam. So code smart for the email bully, and use images for borders.
You heard it here from the lab. Happy Coding!

Email Marketing; There's Something (Wrong) About Outlook 2007If you are a graphic designer/creative person or someone who designs and/or codes HTML email, you may hate me after you read this entry. I’m really a nice guy though, so please hate the message, not the messenger. Thanks to Microsoft, a big change has impacted how your emails look and you need to make some adjustments, lest you not live up to your company billing as (insert name here), email marketing rock star.
Email Marketing: 16 reasons not to paste and blast emails from OutlookThis one seems to come up often with smaller businesses or email marketing newbies. I thought I'd give you some food for thought as to why pasting code into Microsoft Outlook and blasting is not such a good idea for your company, its brand or your sanity. I vow to post three new reasons a day until I run out. (Hint: maybe there are a lot of them).
Top 11 New Year's Email Marketing Resolutions - 2007Great. Another list, right? Yep. But hopefully this one will make you lots of money or even get you a promotion (which may actually have you check off a few of your own resolutions!).
P.S. We just couldn’t stop at 10. We tried. We think #11 is the strongest (and our favorite) email marketing resolution of all for the New Year.
Happy Email Marketing in ’07!
