Email Marketing: Raising Money, New Hires

In late-September, our company participated in the Concord, New Hampshire, JDRF Walk - one of more than 200 walks worldwide designed to raise money and awareness for juvenile diabetes. Our company set up a website for our particular fundraising efforts and sent an aggressive goal. Unfortunately, we didn't hit it, but it wasn't for any lack of trying from the good folks here.

Instead of dwelling on what we didn't do, we instead decided to focus on the positives. One is that we brought out almost 30 people to the event, a mix of workers and friends/family. Another positive is that we did raise $1500 which helped contribute to a major effort of $42,000 raised on the Concord walk alone. So overall, I would say that in our first company charitable effort, it was a success!

(From Left-to-Right) - Tony and Holly Adinolfi, Susan Bowie, Ian, Kelley and Mannix Muir, Matt Torrisi, Steve Wheeler, John Norton, Brett Houle and Josh Nason.

New hires, new hires: We've added some personnel in the past few months and it's time to introduce you to them, our new Project Manager Kelley Muir and new Developer Erik Bertrand.

As Project Manager, Kelley will ensure the timely and thorough development of the company’s growing roster of projects from concept to completion. Muir will also serve as client liaison to the production team. Muir comes to Amplify from Portsmouth, NH’s Hatchling Studios, where she was a Project Manager and 3-D animator. She shares duties between SendLabs and our sister web development arm, Amplify Studios.

Erik has advanced experience in the development, enhancement and maintenance of .NET and other classic ASP applications. He will use those skills to help bolster the developmental capabilities of our entire group. He will also work with our Quality Assurance staff to ensure top-quality applications. Erik spent the past two years as a Software Engineer in the Emerging Solutions Group at Kronos, a computer software firm based in Chelmsford, MA.

Welcome to SendLabs, Kelley and Erik!

This one seems to come up often with smaller businesses or email marketing newbies. I thought I'd give you some food for thought as to why pasting code into Microsoft Outlook and blasting is not such a good idea for your company, its brand or your sanity. I vow to post three new reasons a day until I run out. (Hint: maybe there are a lot of them).

Email Marketing: The Anatomy of a Junk Email
Like most of us in the web world, I'm a bit groggy first thing in the morning anyway. As a result, I do a lot of clicking and deleting when I first check my email in the A.M. A lil' junk mail did make it through to my inbox (high five, spammers!) and this one in particular made me laugh; not LOL style, but more of a smirk.

Email Marketing: Is Pizza Hut Delivering Great Email?
In 2006 alone, Pizza Hut brought in over $9.3 billion in sales, almost doubling the second-place finisher, Domino's. You see their TV ads and you see their flyers in your mailbox every few months. They spend a lot of money in branding themselves a certain way and take great care in their image. So why isn't their email given the proper care?
