Boston Bruins score game-winner with email marketing campaign

With being a sports fan in Boston comes a bit of skeptcism, even with the success of the Red Sox, Patriots and recently, the Celtics. Most of our venom goes toward the Bruins (at least by those who stilll care the Bruins are around). With a somewhat unlikable ownership/front office combination and a lack of any titles for decades, the Bruins are more frustrating than fan-attracting these days.

However, they did a really cool thing to their email database, attempting to collect new addresses through using a commodity they have plenty of: tickets to a game. Check it out below (click to enlarge):

The message is clear, they're providing a direct incentive both for immediate action (first 50 will get free tickets) and bigger incentives for the more people you refer that actually do sign up. The time of year is a bit strange as hockey season is a few months away from winding down, but I like this effort and have already referred it to another sports-related client of ours.

Nice work, Boston Bruins. Now go catch up with your contemporaries and win a title already!

Email Marketing: Is Pizza Hut Delivering Great Email?
In 2006 alone, Pizza Hut brought in over $9.3 billion in sales, almost doubling the second-place finisher, Domino's. You see their TV ads and you see their flyers in your mailbox every few months. They spend a lot of money in branding themselves a certain way and take great care in their image. So why isn't their email given the proper care?

Email Marketing: 16 reasons not to paste and blast emails from Outlook
This one seems to come up often with smaller businesses or email marketing newbies. I thought I'd give you some food for thought as to why pasting code into Microsoft Outlook and blasting is not such a good idea for your company, its brand or your sanity. I vow to post three new reasons a day until I run out. (Hint: maybe there are a lot of them).
