Email Marketing: Live Nation Bombs With Search Function

Who doesn't like search engines? Seriously, type in any phrase and something is bound to come up. Why didn't they have this when we were in school? Just think of the additional trouble we could have caused!

However, have you ever heard of a search function within an email? Pardon my ignorance if you have, but today was a first for me. I got my usual email from Live Nation, updating me with upcoming New England shows they are promoting. The email itself is crisp, breathable and well-done - something that so many others in the arena/promotion area fail to grasp. Take a look for yourself (click image to enlarge)...

The only issue is that search function doesn't work. You can type text into the field (you'll see I typed Morcheeba in the search, as they are listed within the body of the email) and click 'Go' but nothing happens. I'm assume that this is a broken link back to their site, but honestly, I'm not so sure. As a consumer, I would either expect this to go directly to a concert on the page or to the site. Is that the idea?

As always, the lesson is test, test, test.

In 2006 alone, Pizza Hut brought in over $9.3 billion in sales, almost doubling the second-place finisher, Domino's. You see their TV ads and you see their flyers in your mailbox every few months. They spend a lot of money in branding themselves a certain way and take great care in their image. So why isn't their email given the proper care?

Email Marketing: 16 reasons not to paste and blast emails from Outlook
This one seems to come up often with smaller businesses or email marketing newbies. I thought I'd give you some food for thought as to why pasting code into Microsoft Outlook and blasting is not such a good idea for your company, its brand or your sanity. I vow to post three new reasons a day until I run out. (Hint: maybe there are a lot of them).

Live Earth: An Email Marketer's Setlist for Success
If you're a huge music fan like myself, you probably checked out some of Saturday's massive Live Earth, a 24-hour concert event spanning eight continents and featuring 100 performers joined together for one cause: to raise awareness of global warming and other issues facing this blue, green and somewhat gray planet that we live on. And while the show was somewhat free of crass commercialism unlike some of its peers, there is definitely a Live Earth market out there to capitalize on. There is no doubt that Live Earth is an email marketer's dream with so many angles and audiences to reach, especially when you consider this tidbit from Reuters today...
