Why does the AP hate the word 'email'?

By Josh Nason - Senior Account Manager

In my journalistic past, I had to be a slave to AP style, short for Associated Press. If you're not familiar with the AP Stylebook, it's a guide for everything grammatically correct when it comes to the mainstream media printed word, including copyediting marks. Like any other document that follows the Engish language, it evolves as our language evolves, whether they like it or not. Trust me: more times, it's "not". (I can only imagine how they feel about blogs.)

That's why this post by Chad White of the Email Experience Council on the reluctance of the AP to recognize the spelling of "email" as opposed to "e-mail" doesn't surprise me at all. After you review this piece, you'll see how ridiculous their stance is.
